Just wondering what experiences people have had with owning/riding young horses by Whisper or with a Weltmeyer bloodline? What people know about dressage ability, movement, temperament?
Any info would be great, thank you!!! :D

There is no doubt that the "W" line horses have a lot of dressage ability, Weltmeyer being one of the most successful dressage sires of all time. They are usually known for their good trots, I think the "W" line trot is quite distinctive- it is quite floaty without excessive knee action. Some of the W horses can be a little tricky temperament-wise, but I think they get better as they get older (and you always have to consider how much the mare has contributed to the temperament!).

There are some really nice horses around by Whisper.

Hi. I have a foal by Whisper called Danny.

He's a stunning looking chestnut horse with birdcatcher spots. He has fantastic movement with a floating trot and very uphill canter. But he can be tempermental although he seems to be getting better with age. His temperment doesn't come from his dam whose one of the most quietest, kindest and gentlest horses you'll ever meet and Whisper is reported to also have a great temperment. I'm inclined to put his temperment down to Weltmeyer (his grandsire) who was known to be difficult when he was younger but settled down with age.

On the flip side Danny can be a really loving horse and some of the things I love about him is that every night he's waiting at the gate when I come home and calls out to me in greeting. He also follows me around the paddock and just seems to like people and their company.

Someone I know has a Weltmeyer gelding who is very quiet but I have heard they can be tricky. I used to ride a mare whose dam was by Weltmeyer and she was very pleasant to ride and handle and all other progeny out of her mother (all by different stallions) were very quiet as well. Haven't had much experience with Whisper progeny but have heard they can be a bit difficult. If you're intending to breed one, consider the mare's temperament also before making a decision.

Yes the Weltmeyer trot is very distinct. Thank you for your replies everyone, I had no idea about the difficult trait that can come from Weltmeyer, however like you said it also depends alot on the mare's temperament.

I had also been told that the Weltmeyer bloodline can be a little 'strong willed' and I used to own a Weltmeyer/Rocadero gelding. A "double dose" of crazy as a few people said to me after I bought him. He turned out to be the Most trainable horse I've ever ridden. Prelim-PSG in 8 months. This horse was also 7 when I started training him, now at 10yo he's a nice school master for an Adult rider without alot of experience. So I think it definately depends on how the mare line contributes to the WEltmeyer and also what conditions the horse has grown up in.

I currently ride 2 horses from the same mare and stallion and owned and raised by the same people, but grew up in a different herd of young horses. One of them is the most happy go lucky horse around. He's a bit of a "holiday horse" that you can just cruise around on. The other, is the most high maintanence pig around!!

I think it definately pays to keep in mind what the bloodline is generally like but also judge each horse as you see it.

We have a lovely rising 3 filly by Whisper at my work. She is the most loving and affectionate horse I have ever met (will leave her breakfast for cuddles!) However she can be a little stubborn at times but nothing major. She's got amazing floating movement! Should also add that she is out of a mare by Graf Landau who has a fantastic temperament.
