View Full Version : HELP: horse needed for RDA rider

My son, Brendan, is a 19yo disabled rider, (some of you would know him as he tags along to comps when his sister Courtney rides) in May he won his 3 tests at the RDA State Titles and has been selected for the Qld team heading off to Werribee for the RDA Dressage Nationals at the end of October. Sadly, his horse Mireza, has come down with a virus of some sort and won't be up to going, even if she does recover in time. I am desperately seeking a suitable horse for Brendan to continue training on (twice weekly lessons with Terry Cowan at Elimbah) with the view to borrowing a horse in Victoria for the competition. Brendan is a capable rider so doesn't need to be totally bombproof, but must have a calm, sensible nature and 15.2 h and upwards.

This, I know, is a huge ask but if anyone can help us we would be most grateful. Brendan has put an enormous effort into fundraising for this event and is devastated that his horse is ill, so I am trying everything I can think of to make his dream happen for him.

I hope you find a horse, Margaret. It would be a traged if he couldn't go.

What educational level does Brendan need in the horse he borrows?

Would any of the local RDA's help out? My horse would have been perfect, he's a 15.1hh arab and he had been to elementary... he's now up at the Burpengary RDA. If we still had him, or had any input into what he does we'd love to help out, but we don't and none of our others would be suitable.

What a wonderful opportunity, I hope you find something suitable.

Brendan is riding prelim/novice so any dressage horse would be suitable, will ask Burpengary RDA, maybe your boy is an option. Thanks.

Anyone have any Victorian contacts? There are now 2 boys on the Qld team trying to find loan horses in Vic for the comp, and he's even taller than Brendan!!

Tracy has given me a contact in Vic which may lead to a loan horse down there, so far we have 2 horses in Vic to try out which is fantastic!! Unfortunately haven't been able to find anything local to use which is frustrating as he really needs to ride. Would be happy to ride a loan horse on owners property 2 - 3 times a week and take it up to Terry once a week if possible. Finger poised over panic button......hovering......

If you have not yet found a horse, I have one I would be happy to let you borrow, he is green, but lovely. Big, solid, almost 16.3hh 5yo TB gelding, started dressage & eventing about 5 months ago, currently working and competing prelim. Big, relaxed paces, super quiet attitude, very loveable. If you want to know more give me a ring on (07) 46971109.

Trudy

I am just so thrilled for Brendan and Courtney of course and not to mention darling Comet.
Comet has been through so much in the last 10 months due to people whom i trusted could look after him. As a result he developed itch, massive weight loss and he was really sad!
I got him back to good condition and gave him some true lovin! I knew this time after meeting Brendan, Courtney and Margaret that Comet would be in the best of hands and he ( and I ) would not be let down.
So the true lovin is continuing with Brendans big cuddles and sooooooo much attention Comet wont know what too do with himself!
Best of luck with your future competitions, I'm sure with Comets Paces, look at me presense and Courtneys awesome riding ability that Brendan will kick some seriou BUTT...............
