Hi everyone

Just had a lovely chap from NSW DPI drop by doing a headcount because there will be a vaccinating and microchipping program along a 5km strip either side of the NSW/QLD border from the coast to Goondiwindi. He tells me it will be implemented within about 7 days as part of the buffer zone.

We're only 400m from the border so it's good to see both states co-operating in this way.

He also said that he has found most people very well informed about EI and eager to do the right thing. Thank goodness!!

He also told me that up until about 8 years ago the overseas shuttle stallions had to stop off at the Cocos Islands for 4 weeks while they were monitored before being allowed to continue on to Australia. But the thoroughbred industry decided that that was no longer necessary and only reduced the time the stallions could be serving mares (read making money). Talk about karma-only now we're all paying for it.

Maybe they'll look at AI a bit differently now too.

Hi Kathryn

Thanks for this update. I live at Tallebudgera (yes, I was booked in for some instructor training with you:) and I have been trying to find out from the DPI call line if we will be included in the vaccination program. As the crow flies from out place we would also be within 5 klm of the border. I guess I will just have to wait and see if they contact me.
