At the moment I am riding two totally different young horses and I am finding the whole experience fasinating.
The WB who is 5yo is the most talented horse I have ever had the pleasure to ride. He is obliging and if I do it right he does it right. I am about to do our first elimentary test and I am not worried about whether he is capable of doing it because he is. It took me 12-14 months to be able to ride him because of going from 20 years of ponies to a 3yo 16hh wb with a bouncy trot. Even at his most tense he would put most horses to shame on softness. He doesn't often argue about learning something new and gives it a try. He is obliging but doesn't like to work at all. For all his quietness he has had me off shying and nearly had me off at other times doing the same thing, he isn't bold.
The other youngster is a 6yo overgrown pony who I am finding most fascinating. Due to having a very bad tooth problem with two operations to fix, he has major trauma about anything to do with his mouth, as some will have seen from my unorthodox thread. To watch him working things out and then giving them a try then having light bulb moments has been very interesting. He is finding a comfort zone which he has never had before and liking it. He still hasn't got the confidence yet to stay there but these moments are becoming more and more frequent and I can feel the tension starting to leave his body. With all this he is the one I ride out in the bush as I feel a lot safer on him than on Daniel.
These two are like chalk and cheese. Daniel I have to chase up sometimes as he doesn't always think forward and will suck back whereas Roo is too forward and tends to most of the time run. He ran way from the pain and is still running although this is becoming less.
Sorry for the ramble I just thought I might share what I am feeling.

What a terrific challenge, Shirrine. It's going to do wonders for your riding, having two such different physical and mental types to ride every day.

It can be fabulous and it can be a curse!
