Has anyone else had a really heavy sweater? My boy, Bobby gets very sweaty and foaming after only 15 minutes or so. He gets a good electrolyte sup and drinks well, and is actually quite fit, but just always looks like I have worked the absolute pants off him. He is very laid back, not mentally hot at all. It is mainly the cosmetic issue, as by the time he is warmed up to compete, he looks dreadful!
While I know it is better to sweat than not to sweat, it is annoying that you spend so long washing etc to get them gleaming, only for it to be wasted.
Love to hear others input.........

I have one. I just make sure I keep the electrolytes up to him.

I also dont need to warm him up for long, which is good. But I do have a scraper and towel on hand at a comp to give him a quick rub over before I go in.... if it comes to that!

In my Pony Club days I had a little welsh mare (still have her!!) and she used to sweat up alot after on the warm up trot around the oval there. She was pretty fit as we did a fair bit of eventing, and we'd had her checked out by the vet to make sure every thing was going fine with her. She just seemed to sweat all the time. My PC 'friend' was always going on about how her pony didn't sweat at all beacuase he was just Sooooooo fit (even though he'd just about colapse in the float on the way home) and some people don't seem to have fit horses and it was so cruel...
I wouldn't worry about it, maybe about 10 mins. before you get into the ring get a groom to give him a bit of a wipe off with a little bit of water then walk him around for a bit to let it dry off with out sweating up again. My girl tends to be pretty sweaty as well when I compete, and I just wipe her off, and it's all fixed!!
And if you loose the shine in the coat when he sweats, maybe get your self some sort of coat conditioning spray that you can give him a once over with just as you go in to get that shine up again.

Thanks for your input guys. I didn't really think there was much else I could do. But thanks for the reply.

I have one too!! I just keep up the salt/electrolytes (yes both).

Sorry, I'm not too good with the 'presentation' thing, but maybe if you warm him up, cool him back down, hose and dry, then just give him a very light warm up before you're actually due back in the arena?

Good luck!
