Hey,

I'm not sure how many of you are invovled in showing buckskins but i have a friend with a bucksin mare who she is showing at toowoomba royal. Does anybody know if you are allowed false tails?? Also, she has a black tail but it has a little chocolate brown at the bottom and does anybody know wether it should be dyed all black or just left natural??

Thanks,
Bec

I show buckskins and havn't needed to use a false tail but i can't see why you can't you turn them out like show hacks. Below is the criteria from the Dilutes showing pages in regards to judgeing.
Buckskins & Duns are also judged on conformation alone and may also be presented plaited, hogged, braided or banded for both led and under saddle classes. They may not however be dyed; (legs - whilst we would prefer that substances such as raven oil NOT be used, their use is permitted within reason). Primitive markings on duns must not be enhanced or artificially applied under any circumstances as these are fundamental characteristics of the colour (like the white mane & tail of the palomino and pink feet of the cremello & perlino). Any person found doing this will be barred.

Buckskins and duns are shown together in the same classes; most shows will only specify Buckskin on the program but this refers to both colours. There should be no preference shown towards either colour.

I know from showing pallys that you cannot use a false tail, nor bleach the tail to make it whiter etc, thats why they can be a bit of a pain, constant washing tail bags, careful what you feed etc etc, but this is only confined to the specific breed shows and classes in open rings against all comers we would use false tails and enhance the colour etc so I would be careful with the false tail, the end of your horses tail sounds like it is sun bleached, you may be able to trim it off if its not too bad.

Buckskins have no limitations really - you can have false tails, show sheen die their tails use makeup it's all ok.
