Well, I had the vet on Saturday and then a specialist this arvo. It appears that my boy has a stife injury. He is recommending a nerve block to identify exactly where it is ie. ligament or in joint. Worse case scenario is he will have to have an operation. I feel absolutely sick in stomach, my husband has stormed off complaining. Something so simple as a slip in his footing and now all this. Has anyone else had experience with this type of injury?

Do the op, if necessary. Its far better than developing stifle lock and arthritis if not treated.

How did the operation go? Did you end up doing it?
I am pulling this post up becaue I am facing the same nightmare.....Anyone have any info on this operation?
My mare is booked into Murdoch University in Perth for full xrays and possibly surgery in a few weeks time.

Hi Feuerlilie
No, my boy didn't have the operation. I didn't rush into anything. I spoke to the vet again and he said that if I rested him in a small yard (small enough for him not to be able to get up a trot) for a six week period and there had been no improvement then we would know we would need to do the further investiagations. If however he showed some improvement then we would not need to operate - I remember him saying we have nothing to lose but time. So I did that. During his spell he had an accupunturist see him twice and a couple of sessions of equine massage. After six weeks he showed a huge improvement. About that time we had a flood and is small yard went under water so had was forced to return him to his regular paddock - yep you guess it - he turned up lame one morning. So back to the yard he went for another four weeks and he has been sound since. He is now back in full work and we went to a comp a couple of weeks ago.
hang in there - it is a very hard and stressful time.
cheers
