Hi everyone - have enjoyed the forum so much - thought I had better add my bit.
Well, I've been riding since 1972. In my younger years I rode so many mad ponies, grumpy mares, trotters and speed crazy racehorses. My parents weren't into horses so I rode anything that came my way - usually green and slighty nutty. But in the last few years I have been so blessed with some wonderful horses.
I've galloped on beaches, ridden bareback and in halters, ridden through mountains in New Zealand, jumped hedges and ditches and didn't even own a riding helmet until about 15 years ago. My kids went to Dalson Park and we all had a ball, sometimes playing indoor polo - wasn't that a hoot. We used to ride the horses across the Daisy Hill overpass on a Friday night to go and play! You wouldn't dream of doing that now.
In the 1990's I became a pony club instructor, helped establish the Waterford Pony Club Cross Country course with a fabulous dedicated committee, ran lots of competitions and did my EFA Coaching, dressage judging both pony club and EFA. Now middle aged, I'm enjoying dressage on my home bred 17hh Black Gelding. He's 1/8 percheron, 1/2 warmblood and a bit of anglo. He couldn't gallop to save himself except to his feed bucket. But hey, we are having fun - even having some success at official novice.
Life without horses and a glass of wine would be like a day without sunshine!
